Message from Mme allard,
physical education for kindergarten to grade 4
Our school believes that physical education is an essential aspect of every child’s life. A quality physical education, based on active participation, respect, and responsibility, will help promote children’s health and a positive self-image.
The focus of the program at École Tuxedo Park is to develop basic movement, manipulation and rhythmic skills, to improve overall fitness, and to increase knowledge and understanding of the factors associated with the development of fitness, strength, flexibility, and agility.
Safety, teamwork, and fair play are other essential components of our physical education program. All students are expected to actively participate in every physical education class. If your child is unable to participate in a physical activity, please send me a note with the particulars. Alternately, you may also send me an e-mail, preferably before 8:15 a.m. to excuse your child from physical activity due to an illness or an injury. Thank you.
To ensure their ability to participate safely, students must wear clean, non-marking indoor running shoes for all indoor gym classes and outdoor running shoes for outdoor physical activities.
Terry Fox Run
On Wednesday, September 19th, Tuxedo Park will have our annual Terry Fox Run/Walk, from 8:45 a.m. to 9:10 a.m. I encourage all students to either bring in a loonie or a toonie to help support this cancer research fundraiser. All family members are welcome to join us if they can.
Our Terry Fox Assembly will take place later on during the morning of September 19th, as we will be unveiling our new school logo and singing a Terry Fox song, beginning at 10:50 a.m. in our school gym.
Jungle Gym
This year, Jungle Gym will be provided as a physical activity and skill development opportunity once a month, according to a number of seasonal themes such as Halloween, the winter holiday season, Festival du Voyageur and Summer Dancing. A variety of stations will be set up so that students can rotate from one station to the next and have fun while developing their manipulation and movement skills. Whenever possible, Jungle Gym will be set up for a few days in a row, once a month.
Sports Leaders
Grade 4 students will have the opportunity to become our school’s official Sports Leaders. What do Sports Leaders do?
They help set up and take down the Jungle Gym. They help with special physical activity events such as Wheelies Day, Festival du Voyageur Jungle Gym, and Jump Rope for Heart.
Sports leaders are also there to help younger students figure out what to do and where to go on special event days. Being a Sports Leader is being a Helper and an Inspiration to others. We will have our first Sports Leaders Meeting on Monday, September 10 at 2:20 p.m. This is a great opportunity for grade 4 students to have fun together while helping younger students at our school!
Extra-Curricular Clubs
In September, Grade 4 students from École Tuxedo Park will have the opportunity to participate in friendly divisional cross-country races, specifically on the following Tuesday afternoons: September 18, September 25 and October 2 (rain date). Races will take place at Varsity View Sportsplex and Grade 4 students will be accompanied by Mme Allard and Mme Cannon on the school bus trip there and back.
In order to prepare the Grade 4 students for these fun races, I am supervising a number of cross-country running practices on school days 1 and 5 after school, from 3:40 to 4:10 in the afternoons. Students who are interested in participating in these practices will need to have a permission form filled out by their parent/guardian in order to allow them to stay after school on the practice days. Students who usually take the bus to go home can participate in our lunch hour runs, which will take place on school days 1 and 5, from 12:05 to 12:35. They will have the opportunity to enjoy the last 10 minutes of their lunch recess outside with the other students.
Last but not least, I feel truly honored to have the opportunity to work with the Tuxedo Park students and their families this year. I look forward to meeting all of you.
My goal is to make physical education at École Tuxedo Park a Five “A” Program:
1. Absolutely 2. Amazing 3. Activities 4. Always 5. Awesome!
